Am. J. Phys: 100 Memorable Papers

I have tried to include, for each lab, references to

The appropriate original papers when available
The Nobel lectures germane to this topic
Papers which give historical background material
Papers which develop the experimental approach we implement or similar approaches
Papers which give theoretical development required for the analysis or theoretical insight into phenomena which crop up during the experiment
Papers which give an alternate or advanced experimental approach

I have found the Nobel lectures to be superb laboratory references. They usually provide a reasonable balance of historical background and introductory theoretical introduction

The primary references used to compile this list are

The American Journal of Physics and Physics Teacher
Trigg, Landmark Experiments in Twentieth Century Physics
Nobel Prize Lectures
Mellisinos,
Sproull
Preston and Dietz
Moore
